How Photos And Videos Are Repaired
Ask anyone who has tried free recovery tools on a camera card. The photos come back but half of them open grey from the middle down and the videos refuse to play. That is not the end of them. It is usually a repair job and DRE Pro does that job during the scan.
Photos
Every photo DRE Pro finds is checked. When one is damaged it is repaired as it is found and a whole photo hidden inside a broken file is kept as a photo of its own. The repaired file takes the damaged one's place in the results under its own name, so you do not get two copies of everything.
Videos
Cameras and phones write a video in many pieces and keep an index of where the pieces are. On a busy card the pieces scatter. DRE Pro follows the video's own index, finds each frame where it really sits on the drive and puts the clip back in order.
When part of a video has been overwritten, the rebuilt clip stops at its last real frame. You get a shorter video that plays, not a long one with someone else's footage spliced in.
Getting The Best Result
- Scan the original card or drive, not a copy of the broken file. The missing pieces are on the drive.
- Stop shooting on the card the moment something looks wrong.
- Run a Deep Scan and filter the results to Photos or Videos.
- Preview before you save. Each file is marked Good, Risky or Overwritten.
