Pen drives are the classic case. You plug one in at a print shop and come back to find only shortcuts where your folders were. The folders are usually still there, just hidden. DRE Pro reads the drive directly, so hidden files are listed like any other.
Files that were deleted by the infection are a normal delete as far as the drive is concerned. The sooner you scan, the better the chances.
The Clean-Up Order
- Clean the computer first.
- Open DRE Pro and run a Quick Scan on the affected drive.
- Preview and save what you need to a clean drive.
- Scan the saved files with your antivirus before you open them.
- Run a Deep Scan if anything is still missing.
About Ransomware
If ransomware locked your files with a new extension and a ransom note, recovery software cannot unlock them. Sometimes the original copies were deleted rather than overwritten and a Deep Scan finds them. Sometimes they were not. A free scan tells you which case you are in before you pay anything.
