After A Reinstall, Some Files Come BackOn A Hard Disk, More Than You Would Think.

A fresh install writes a lot of new data onto C:, so this is harder than a simple delete and we will not pretend otherwise. But Windows does not fill the whole drive. Wherever the new install did not land, the old files can still be sitting there.

Your Chances, Honestly

On a hard disk, the new Windows takes a part of the drive and the rest keeps what it had. Files in that untouched part often come back in full. On an SSD, a reinstall that formats the drive usually clears it at the same time and the old files are gone.

DRE Pro marks every file it finds as Good, Risky or Overwritten, so you know what you are getting before you pay for anything.

Check Windows.old, Then Scan

  1. Check C:\Windows.old first. It is free and takes a minute.
  2. Install DRE Pro and run a Deep Scan on the disk.
  3. Filter by Documents, Photos or Emails.
  4. Preview each file and save the Good ones to another drive.

When It Will Not Come Back

We would rather tell you now than after you have paid.

  • The disk is an SSD that was formatted during the install.
  • The new install and the programmes after it took the space the files were in.

What You Will See On Screen

A Deep Scan reads the whole drive, including the space the new Windows has not used.

Every File Gets An Honest Mark

The free scan lists everything it finds and tells you plainly what state each file is in.

Good

Looks complete. Open it, check it, save it.

Risky

Found but parts may be damaged. Preview before you count on it.

Overwritten

The space was reused. It cannot come back whole and we say so.
