D: Was There YesterdayThe Partition Usually Still Is.

D: was there yesterday. Today This PC shows one drive less, or Disk Management shows a block of unallocated space where it used to be. The files usually sit exactly where they were. What got lost is the small map that tells Windows where the partition starts and ends.

How A Partition Goes Missing

A wrong click in Disk Management. A Windows install that redid the partitions. A tool that resized one and failed halfway. A power cut while the table was being written. In each case the data area is usually untouched and only the entry describing it has gone.

Inside Partition Recovery

  1. Open DRE Pro and go to Partition Recovery under Utility Tools.
  2. Pick the disk. DRE Pro reads it and lists the partitions it can find.
  3. Open a found partition and browse it like File Explorer.
  4. Tick what you need and save it to a different disk.

Check The Disk While You Are There

A partition that vanished on its own can be a sign of a disk that is starting to fail. Open Drive Health and look at the health percentage. If it says Warning or Failing, create a disk image first and recover from the copy.

When It Will Not Come Back

We would rather tell you now than after you have paid.

  • A new partition was created in that space and filled with new files.
  • The disk is failing badly enough that it can no longer be read. Copy it to an image while you still can.

What You Will See On Screen

Partition Recovery looks for partitions that were deleted or lost, with the folders inside them.
